JAKARTA – The men’s doubles Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri managed to overcome the Danish pair, Daniel Lundgaard/Mads Vestergaard, in a two-game match to reach the quarterfinal of the 2026 Singapore Open.

Fajar/Fikri, who are ranked third in the BWF Super 750 tournament, completed the match at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, on Thursday, May 28, 2026, afternoon WIB, in just 40 minutes with a final score of 21-13 and 21-12.

“Alhamdulillah, grateful to be given smoothness, given victory as well. Today we played with our initial plan, we were able to implement a pattern of play for this Danish pair,” said Fajar in a statement.

Fajar/Fikri appeared very dominant in the latest meeting with Daniel/Mads, who last week won the 2026 Malaysia Masters. In the first game, they were forced to come back from behind to lead 3-1 and continue to lead after that.

In the second game, Fajar/Fikri were also only troublesome in the beginning. They were two behind, but after the score was 3-3, the pace of the points went very smoothly and could not be stopped by Daniel/Mads.

This victory also made Fajar/Fikri sharpen the record of meetings to 3-0 in the competitive arena. The other two victories they got all happened last year, consecutively at the Denmark and French Open.

“They are an amazing couple. They just won the 2026 Malaysia Masters last week so we tried not to be distracted and not to be too excited. Today is more relaxed and enjoyable,” said Fajar.

Next, Fajar/Fikri will meet the pair of Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin. The Malaysian pair, who are ranked eighth, qualified for the last eight by eliminating their compatriots, Junaidi Arif/Yap Roy King.

Fajar said that he had often met the couple on the field, both when he was still paired with Muhammad Rian Ardianto and now with Fikri.

“They are experienced players and they don’t make many mistakes themselves. We will study each of their games again with the coach and video analysts,” he said.

Fajar/Fikri is the only Indonesian men’s doubles left in Singapore. They went there with Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Mohammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani who had to go home in the second round after losing to Kang Khai Xing/Aaron Tai from Malaysia.
