Social organizations in the U.S. convocated an emergency protest in Los Angeles for Saturday, June 6, to denounce the imperialist escalation, economic blockade and the recent sanctions targeting Cuba.

The U.S. Hands Off Cuba Committee, working in close alliance with diverse progressive trade unions and civil movements, convocated the emergency protest for June 6 at 11:00 local time in front of the Wilshire Federal Building in Los Angeles, California.

Under the unifying slogan “No War on Cuba“, this crucial demonstration will take place directly within the territory of the nation driving the hostile diplomatic escalation, aiming to firmly condemn the recent military intervention threats and the economic strangulation designed by the White House against the sovereign Caribbean island.

The organizers of this historic mobilization explicitly contrasted the foreign policies of both countries. They pointed out that while the primary export of the United States consists of foreign armed conflicts financed with public funds, Cuba stands out worldwide for its medical and educational solidarity.

The convocating organizations, which include CodePink Los Angeles, Black Men Build and the Socialist Workers Party, highlighted the international deployment of Cuban healthcare professionals and educators, as well as the historic contribution of the sister nation to the global struggle against apartheid.

This emergency public protest responds directly to a highly tense international context marked by more than sixty years of an illegal economic blockade, which has been severely worsened by recent measures of energy suffocation. On January 29, an Executive Order from the administration of Donald Trump threatened to impose harsh financial tariffs on third-nations that supply petroleum to Cuba, directly causing a severe fuel crisis in the sister Antillean country.

Following this hostile path, the U.S. Government applied further unilateral financial sanctions on May 1, specifically targeting the financial, mining and energy sectors of Cuba. These coercive measures also penalize foreign corporations operating in key strategic areas that generate essential foreign currency for the Caribbean island. The aggressive scenario intensified on May 20, when the U.S. Department of Justice politically indicted Army General Raúl Castro Ruz over an aerial incident that occurred thirty years ago.

The aggressive rhetoric peaked on June 4, when Donald Trump warned that his administration will “take care of†Cuba due to its sovereign relations with Iran. This hostile statement coincided with the announcement of new direct sanctions against President Miguel Díaz-Canel, Cuban civil society organizations and family members of the nation's political leadership.

The organizers of the upcoming protest reaffirmed that the international community must defend Cuban sovereignty against imperialist interventions.
