“It's been a very difficult time for all of them,†Fink told the Herald.

“Trying to navigate the process over there is obviously not something that they're used to compared to what we're used to in New Zealand. So it's been incredibly challenging and hard.â€
Fink said the operation was described as “uneventful†and Guillonta was given a 40% chance of survival.
“It's going to be a very slow recovery.â€
Guillonta's two children, aged 7 and 5, had stayed in New Zealand with their mum.
“I know the mum and children are also devastated,†Fink said.
“The kids don't really understand the full extent of what has happened to their dad. They just know that they were looking forward to him coming back. They're quite little, they're very precious little kids.â€

Fink said the circumstances around the crash are still unknown.
“We're not really sure what actually happened specifically with the accident because there's been no witness accounts, no thorough report from an ambulance or anything like that to give context on what happened.
“Obviously Jarom is not in a state right now to give his version of what's happened.â€
Local police in Bali have been in contact with the family.
Based on Guillonta's social media stories, he was wearing a helmet at the time, Fink said.
The family are now facing rising medical bills of more than $100,000.
“Jarom does have a travel insurance policy. The claim process is underway but [it] is unknown what might be covered at this stage,†the Givealittle page said.
“This page has been created on the family's behalf to help ease the financial pressure during this incredibly difficult time, so the family can focus on what matters most, being there for Jarom.â€
The Givealittle page has raised more than $14,000.
A Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokesperson said “we are aware of a New Zealander in hospital in Bali, Indonesia, and are providing consular assistanceâ€.
