Indonesia estimates that the comprehensive additional US tariffs will be approximately 18%, to be implemented in two phases starting in July.

Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, issued a statement stating that based on calculations combining the full tariff details announced by the U.S. and the agreed-upon list of product exemptions, Indonesia is expected to face a comprehensive additional tariff rate of approximately 18%.

He stated that compared to other U.S. trading partners, the conditions Indonesia secured in these tariff negotiations are relatively favorable. At the same time, this 18% figure is only a current estimated rate; the final collection standards will only be determined after completing a series of statutory administrative processes, such as the U.S. public comment period and hearings.

The tariffs will be implemented in two phases: On July 24, the U.S. will first impose a 10% permanent tariff targeting forced labor issues; several weeks later, additional tariffs addressing global structural overcapacity will be layered on, forming the comprehensive tax burden.

Regarding the textile industry, a core export sector for Indonesia, the U.S. side is separately formulating a dedicated supporting buffer mechanism to mitigate the impact on the industry’s exports.
