JAKARTA – Men’s singles badminton player Jonatan Christie and women’s doubles Rachel Allessya Rose/Febi Setianingrum qualified for the semifinals of the 2026 Polytron Indonesia Open.

The BWF Super 1000 competition, which took place at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, completed the quarterfinal match on Friday, June 5, 2026, WIB night. Indonesia placed a total of four representatives in the semifinals out of seven who fought in the last eight.

Jonatan, who is the fifth seed in this tournament, secured the fourth ticket for Indonesia by defeating Japan’s Yushi Tanaka in a straight two-game match 21-19 and 24-22.

In the semifinal round, Jonatan will face Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul. The badminton player from Thailand secured his place in the last four after burying Alex Lanier’s hopes in a three-game duel 21-18, 7-21, and 21-17.

Lanier is actually in his best form. The French badminton player last week managed to climb to the top of the podium at the BWF Super 750 Singapore Open.

Before stopping Lanier, Teeraratsakul even surprised seventh seed Li Shi Feng (China) in the second round. Thus, Jonatan must take into account the 21-year-old shuttlecock.

In addition to being able to go far in the Indonesia Open, Teeraratsakul was also previously runner-up at the Indonesia Masters event at Istora in January. At that time, he lost two games to the Indonesian youth badminton player, Alwi Farhan.

Meanwhile, Rachel/Febi qualified for the semifinals thanks to a victory over fellow countrywoman Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma/Meilysa Trias Puspitasari. They recovered from a deficit to win 8-21, 21-15, and 21-11.

Rachel/Febi now lead 2-0 against their compatriots. Previously in November last year, the two pairs met in the final round of the BWF Super 500 Australia Open which ended in three games also for Rachel/Febi’s victory.

A tough test awaits Rachel/Febi in the semifinals which will take place on Saturday, June 6, 2026. This is because they will face the first seed from China and the defending champion, Liu Sheng Shu/Tan Ning.

The other two semifinal tickets for Indonesia were obtained by the men’s doubles team of Raymond Indra/Nikolaus Joaquin and Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani. The two pairs face each other in the top four so that one final ticket is automatically in Indonesia’s hands.

Meanwhile, the other two Indonesian representatives who had to postpone their dreams in this competition were the women’s singles Putri Kusuma Wardani and the women’s doubles Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti.
