UMY Winning Third Place in Badminton at the 2026 POR AUM BUMM DIY

POR AUM BUMM DIY– Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) once again won a proud achievement. This time, UMY successfully won third place in the badminton sport at the Muhammadiyah Charity Business (AUM) and Muhammadiyah-Owned Enterprises (BUMM) Sports Week (POR) throughout DIY in 2026.

This success proves the excellence of the UMY academic community not only in academics, but also in sports.

The First Event of LPO PWM DIY

POR AUM & BUMM DIY 2026 is the first sporting event held by the Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership(PWM) Sports Development Institute (LPO) DIY. This activity was officially opened on Sunday (May 31, 2026) at the As Sakinah Building of SMA Muhammadiyah 1, Yogyakarta. The competition was attended by 567 athletes from various schools, universities, hospitals, and Muhammadiyah business entities throughout Yogyakarta.

Badminton was one of the most competitive events. A total of 130 athletes from 18 Muhammadiyah institutions competed for the championship title. Over two days of competition, from May 31 to June 1, 2026, the participants displayed their best skills while upholding the highest standards of sportsmanship.

The Struggles of the UMY Badminton Team

The UMY Badminton team was strengthened by a strong team of lecturers and educational staff. They have demonstrated consistent performance, reaching the top three.

The UMY Contingent competed under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Bambang Jatmiko, SE, M.Si. In this event, he played a dual role as both a player and a team coach. Thanks to his guidance, the UMY team was able to face tough competition from other institutions.

“This event is not just a competition. It also serves as a platform to strengthen ties between Muhammadiyah AUM and BUMM. We are grateful for the UMY team. We can perform optimally and bring home achievements,” said Prof. Bambang when interviewed on Monday (8/6/2026).

At the end of the competition, PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping Hospital emerged as the winner. PKU Muhammadiyah Bantul Hospital took second place. UMY successfully secured third position and was entitled to a podium with the champions.

Building Synergy Through Sports

This achievement confirms UMY commitment in supporting the development of excellent human resources holistically. Sports activities on campus are an effective way to maintain health and fitness. Furthermore, sports are effective in building character, teamwork, and a healthy competitive spirit.

The Head of the Yogyakarta Regional Leadership Council (LPO PWM), Edy Prajaka, stated that the AUM & BUMM Student Activities (POR) aims to strengthen synergy between Muhammadiyah institutions. Through this activity, all participants can build networks, strengthen brotherhood, and foster a healthy lifestyle within the organization.

This achievement of third place is a big motivation for UMY. The young and global campus is committed to continuously improving its performance in various sporting events in the future. (Jeed)
