Singapore U19s set for ASEAN U19 Boys Bank Sumut Championship 2026 challenge – Football Association of Singapore

SINGAPORE, 28 MAY 2026 – Singapore Men's Under-19 Head Coach Syed Azmir today announced his 23-man squad for the upcoming ASEAN U19 Boys' Bank Sumut Championship 2026, set to take place in Medan, Indonesia from 1–13 June 2026.

Singapore will compete in Group B alongside five-time champions, Thailand, Malaysia, and Brunei Darussalam, with all group-stage matches set to take place at the 20,000-capacity Teledan Stadium.

The U19s will begin their campaign against Malaysia on Tuesday, 2 June 2026 before taking on Thailand three days later. Their group stage campaign concludes with a clash against Brunei Darussalam on Monday, 8 June 2026.

The side will be captained by midfielder Andy Reefqy, with defender Luth Harith named vice-captain. Both players featured regularly in the Singapore Premier League (SPL) with Young Lions this season and also represented Singapore's U22 SEA Games campaign last December.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Head Coach Syed Azmir highlighted the value of the team's recent preparatory fixtures against the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

“The friendlies against the UAE gave the boys a real understanding of the intensity, physicality and concentration levels required at international football,†said Syed Azmir.

“The players responded well to the challenge and took important lessons from the experience. We look forward to competing strongly and representing Singapore with pride.â€

The squad also features four 16-year-olds, including goalkeeper Ilhan Rezal – son of former Singapore international goalkeeper Rezal Hassan. Midfielder Zaki Jumlan and forward Varghese Ethan, who recently featured in the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U17 Championship, also earned call-ups.

Syed Azmir pointed to the quality and maturity shown by the younger players as key reasons behind their selection.

“These players have shown tremendous character and quality in both training and matches. They've earned this opportunity through their performances and attitude, and we believe this experience will support their continued growth at the international level.â€
