JAKARTA – Inter Miami is trying to complete a deal to sign Brazilian midfielder Casemiro this summer.

The 34-year-old midfielder announced in January 2026 that he would leave Manchester United after his contract with the English club expires on June 30, 2026.

He is rumored to be arriving at Inter Miami as a free transfer during the Major League Soccer (MLS) secondary transfer window, which runs from July 13 to September 2, 2026.

News of Inter Miami’s continued negotiations with Casemiro was first reported by The Athletic.

Inter Miami initially expressed an interest in signing Casemiro, along with LA Galaxy and Al Ittihad of Saudi Arabia.

Launching ESPN, Inter Miami and LA Galaxy were among the clubs that contacted Casemiro in March 2026 before an official offer was made. However, Inter Miami was the player’s first choice.

Inter Miami does not have a Designated Player slot available to offer to Casemiro as Lionel Messi, Rodrigo De Paul, and German Berterame currently occupy those three positions.

However, before signing him with a non-DP contract, Inter Miami needs to negotiate Casemiro’s discovery rights issue with LA Galaxy.

MLS rules state that clubs can register up to five players on their discovery list at any given time. By registering a player, the team holds the priority right to initiate negotiations for the recruitment.

LA Galaxy reportedly have the player’s discovery rights, which prohibits Inter Miami from recruiting Casemiro without first negotiating with the Los Angeles team.

Meanwhile, Casemiro has been announced in the Brazilian squad for the 2026 World Cup this summer in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
