Barcelona will turn their attention to Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid after officially signing Anthony Gordon.

The LaLiga champions are hoping to win the race for Alvarez, who is also wanted by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Arsenal.

The Blaugrana are confident of getting Alvarez after receiving information that the Argentine striker prefers to join Camp Nou over other options.

Barcelona representatives have held various meetings with representatives of the 26-year-old player to explore the possibility of a transfer.

The hunt was already clear that Gordon’s arrival was not related to the search for a new striker because Barcelona would lose Robert Lewandowski who would leave with a free transfer when his contract expires.

The Blaugrana completed a deal with Newcastle United on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, local time, with a fee that could reach 80 million euros for the English player, Gordon, because they really want to reshape the attack line for next season.

The addition of Alvarez certainly makes the Blaugrana’s front line even more terrifying. It’s just that now the potential deal for the Argentine striker won’t be as easy as signing Gordon, who has developed rapidly this week after Sports Director Deco’s visit to England.

With Atletico Madrid setting a high price, negotiations could drag on, with the possibility of a new settlement occurring after the 2026 World Cup.

ESPN first reported in March 2026 that Barcelona planned to overhaul the front line this summer with two new players, with the future of Ferran Torres also uncertain as his contract expires in 2027.

Torres is one of several players the Blaugrana could sell this summer to raise funds for Alvarez, who is likely to cost more than 100 million euros.

The Catalan club are aware that they cannot engage in a bidding war with Champions League finalists PSG and Arsenal, but hope Alvarez’s desire to join Hansi Flick’s side will work in their favour.

PSG manager Luis Enrique is leading the French club’s efforts to sign the former Manchester City striker and can offer him the chance to win the biggest title in football after a trophyless season at Atletico Madrid.

Meanwhile, Alvarez has a contract with Atletico Madrid until 2030 and a release clause of 500 million euros. The club’s attitude is that he will not leave, but coach Diego Simeone will not oppose his departure if the transfer fee is right and the player asks to leave.

He joined Atletico Madrid from Manchester City in 2024 for a transfer fee of more than 85 million euros and has scored 49 goals in 106 appearances.
