JAKARTA – Tottenham Hotspur is getting closer to an agreement to sign Andy Robertson on a free transfer.

The 32-year-old has ended his nine-year association with Liverpool after playing his final game for the club last weekend against Brentford.

Launching ESPN, the deal is not final amid the emerging interest from Juventus, but Spurs are increasingly confident of securing a deal that will make Robertson Roberto de Zerbi’s first recruit.

Tottenham tried to negotiate a deal for Robertson in January 2026, but failed to complete the transfer because Liverpool felt they lacked a sufficient defender.

Spurs felt the need to bring in Robertson because they wanted to add strong characters to the squad. The left-back has 92 appearances for the Scotland National Team in addition to winning the English League twice and the Champions League at Liverpool, as a potential part of the leadership group.

Tottenham are expected to be very active in the summer transfer market. In an open letter to supporters published last Monday, Spurs Non-Executive Chairman Peter Charrington said the club would invest in the transfer window.

“We will invest in several transfer windows to rebuild, balance and strengthen, with this summer representing an important first step in that work,” he said.
