Persija Jakarta officially appointed Shin Tae-yong as the new coach to replace Mauricio Souza to sail the 2026/2027 Super League season.

The coach who once managed the Indonesian National Team was introduced on Monday, June 8, 2026. The announcement of Shin Tae-yong’s arrival was broadcast via Persija’s official Instagram.

Shin Tae-yong is not a new person in Indonesian football. He managed the Indonesian National Team from the age group level to the senior level in January 2020.

Shin Tae-yong’s association with the Garuda Squad ended in January 2025. Not long after, he returned to his country and was elected Vice President of the South Korean Football Federation (KFA).

Still in the same month, Shin Tae-yong was also given the position as a part-time General Manager of Seongnam FC, a club that he once won the Asian Champions League.

Throughout his coaching career, Shin Tae-yong has only coached at the club level twice. He spends more time with the national team.

Shin Tae-yong’s foray into coaching began when he became an assistant coach for Brisbane Roar for three years from July 2005 to June 2008.

He was then entrusted as interim coach of Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma in December 2008 until February 2010 before being appointed as permanent coach in February 2010 until December 2012.

Shin Tae-yong was quite successful with Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma, which is now known as Seongnam FC, by presenting the 2010 Asian Champions League or ACL Elite and the 2011 Korean FA Cup.

During his time at Seongnam Ilhwa Chuna, Shin Tae-yong led in 190 matches with 82 wins, 46 draws, and 62 losses.
