JAKARTA – Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has warned his players not to get too confident that they will immediately win the English League title after beating Arsenal.
The Spanish coach reminded his team that Mikel Arteta’s team is still at the top of the table. Therefore, he wants Manchester City to focus step by step.
Currently, their point difference with Arsenal is only three points after a 2-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, April 19, 2026.
Guardiola’s team can be at the top of the table if they win the postponed match against Burnley at Turf Moor on Thursday, April 23, 2026, early morning WIB.
Despite getting the chance to take the title, he warned his squad that there was still a long way to go.
“Who is at the top of the table? Not us. In goal difference, they are better. Step by step. However, of course, we still have hope and still extend the opportunity to fight until the end,” said Guardiola after the match.
Guardiola has injury concerns ahead of the trip to Burnley after revealing Rodri suffered a groin problem against Arsenal.
The Spaniard looked uncomfortable when he was replaced two minutes before the end of the game and Guardiola said he would undergo tests to assess the severity of the problem.
“Some groin problems. The doctor will do a test later or tomorrow,” Guardiola said when asked about Rodri’s injury.
Manchester City’s victory over Arsenal was confirmed thanks to Erling Haaland’s winning goal in the second half. The thrilling match saw both teams have the opportunity to hit the goalpost and Kai Havertz wasted the opportunity to equalize in the 95th minute with a header in the Citizens’ penalty box.
“The two best teams in England, I think it’s a good advertisement around the world. Both of them are tight, attacking, fast, a little more process. There’s nothing to say.”
“I will be satisfied with a draw or a defeat. Seeing what I saw in my team, what can I say? I can’t complain at all, I’m very proud because they (Arsenal) are at the top,” said Guardiola.
