A swift military response in Taraba State has resulted in the death of two suspected armed bandits following a tactical operation carried out by troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke.

The operation was launched on 24 May 2026 after troops received credible intelligence about suspected gunshots in a forested area near the “Welcome to Donga†signpost in Akate District, Donga Local Government Area. Acting on the report, the troops immediately mobilised to the location and conducted a targeted raid aimed at flushing out criminal elements believed to be operating in the area.

On arrival, the troops made contact with armed suspects, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Two of the suspected criminals were killed during the confrontation.

Following the encounter, soldiers recovered an AK-47 rifle, five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two AK-47 magazines, two mobile phones, and other personal effects from the scene.

The Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, praised the troops for their swift response and professionalism during the operation.

He emphasized the need for sustained pressure on criminal networks in line with the directives of the Chief of Army Staff.

He further assured residents of Taraba State that ongoing military operations are aimed at denying armed groups freedom of action, while reinforcing the Army's commitment to restoring and maintaining security across the region.

The statement was issued by the Army Public Relations Officer of 6 Brigade, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, on 25 May 2026.
