School is out for kids across Tennessee which means the routines could be a little out of whack. Local groups are offering advice on how to maintain a routine to prevent things from going awry.

Youth Villages counselor Chloe Brownell says simple things like keeping a consistent bed time and morning alarm clock can make a difference. She adds carrying weekly staples like family dinner can help with a more seamless transition, too.

“I think with school being out, a lot of the structure of like normal wake up time and breakfast, routine, things like that kind of go out the window. And so a lot that is really helpful, though, to prevent conflict. And so if we can keep as much routine as possible and just build some consistency on expectations,” Brownell tells FOX17 News' Johnny Maffei.

When conflict occurs, the adults need to act like adults and remove themselves from the situation temporarily to calm down, if necessary, she adds.
