The first reactions for Steven Spielberg's Disclosure Day have been posted online, with one viewer calling it his best film in two decades.

The veteran director returns to science fiction in the epic blockbuster that stars Josh O'Connor as a whistleblower racing against time to reveal a conspiracy by the government to hide knowledge of extra-terrestrial life. The film, in UK cinemas on June 10, also stars Emily Blunt, Colman Domingo, and Colin Firth.

The star-studded spectacle had its first screenings recently, with critics emerging from the movie singing its praises on X (formerly Twitter). “I loved #DisclosureDay†wrote Gizmondo journalist Germain Lussier. “A dense roller coaster ride blending chase film, love story, & mystery, all wrapped in sci-fi wonder. It's Spielberg's best film in 20 years, filled w/ all the magic that makes his films so special, plus an all-time character/performance by Emily Blunt.â€

Journalist Jairo Jiménez shared: “Spielberg's DISCLOSURE DAY is a hypnotic, captivating UFO thriller that completely disarms your soul. A bold screenplay by [David] Koepp. Blunt & O'Connor form a magnetic & beautifully human couple. The best performances of both their careers. An astonishing masterpiece. You won't blink!â€

Writer Simon Thompson called the film “profound and deeply human with a stellar [John] Williams score. Emotional and intelligent, it's the perfect companion piece to E.T. and Close Encounters. Superb performances across the board but Emily Blunt is wondrous. @disclosureday is truly soul enriching Spielberg.â€

Reviewer Brandon Davies wrote: #DisclosureDay is like E.T. and LOST in one. Steven Spielberg is all in on engaging mystery and some astounding bits of camera work. Emily Blunt is exhaustingly good, Colman Domingo stands out. It's a mysterious, tense thrill that largely gives what it promises. Good movie.â€

Disclosure Day marks Steven Spielberg's first film in four years, following the Oscar-winning semi-autobiographical movie The Fabelmans. Recently, the filmmaker promoted the movie as one of the final guests on Stephen Colbert's late night show.
