JAKARTA — The Japan National Team (Timnas) has changed the location of training in Monterrey, Mexico, ahead of the 2026 World Cup after the players found an uneven field covered with patches of soil.

The Japanese delegation said it had switched from the Liga MX club’s facilities, Tigres UANL – the training location on Wednesday (3 June 2026 local time) – to El Barrial, Monterrey’s training ground.

The delegation did not explain the reason for the move. The exercise was then scheduled for Thursday, June 4, 2026, local time in the afternoon.

The incident at the training location has gone viral on Mexican social media, sparking harsh criticism of UANL Tigres.

Apart from that, Japan will start the 2026 World Cup campaign against the Netherlands in Arlington, Texas, on June 14, 2026. Then, the Blue Samurai will face Tunisia in Monterrey on June 20, 2026, before returning to Texas to play against Sweden on June 25, 2026.

The official training camp for the Blue Samurai for the 2026 World Cup will be in Nashville, Tennessee, where they will arrive on June 8, 2026.
